I Am

I

I am a practical person who loves to read.
I know there is an answer for everything in a book, and I just have to find the right one.
I love the musty, aged smell of old books.
I learn so much from reading pages filled with the knowledge of others.

I am compassionate towards others.
I might be a bit of a know-it-all, but I use my knowledge for good.
I understand others who feel they don’t fit in the box.
I am quick to stand up for others.

I see magic in everyday life.
I love books that help me escape to magical realms.
I am bewildered that not everyone likes books.
I am a practical person who loves to read.

Seasons

What You Can Do With Winter
by Caleb M.

There are four seasons in the year, and each year I love winter the most of them all. In winter, I like the weather most of the time. When it snows in winter, it looks like salt raining from the sky. Snow is very beautiful and fun to play in. The air can get cold in winter, like a room with a broken heater.
I also enjoy winter because of the many activities I get to do. I love to run and slide in the snow, but I get very cold. It is fun to ski in the snow because when I go downhill, I ski fast. The tree I climb has branches that look like arms in the snow. The park near my house has ice on the slides in winter so I can slide really fast.
There are many holidays we love to celebrate in winter. Christmas is a holiday we love especially because we can share the love of God and open gifts. We also like New Year's Eve because we can stay up late that night. My brother and I have birthdays in winter, too, and this is when the birthday season starts. These are just a few of the reasons I love winter.

Life in Summer
by John V.

Though the many seasons give variety to life on earth, summer is the best. Summer is the time for fun, friends, and adventure. During the summer the weather is hot and humid; however the passing breeze makes life bearable. Dark clouds suddenly roll upon the horizon, rain pours down; then the sky is ripped in half with a jagged bolt of light. The thunder rolls. The storm continues! Summer thunderstorms provide a brief interlude to the unbearable heat.
Of the many activities that people do during the summer, I enjoy swimming, sailing, and going to the beach. When I go sailing and look upon the shore, the people look like so many ants crawling upon the sand. The beach is a fun place to relax, have fun, and cool off. I also go to the YMCA’s pool with my friends.
Because of the absence of  school work, I have an excess of time to do many other fun things. I read hundreds of books from the library and am forever finding new tales of adventure. I also have the time to undertake massive Lego building projects. There are many seasons, but summer is my favorite.

Flakes of Joy
by Katie C.

Of all of the four seasons, I love winter the best. It is the best time to grow closer to my family and Jesus.
In winter, my family and I do fun activities to celebrate the season. The first snowflake always calls me, early in the morning. Before it reaches the ground, my siblings and I are outside with our tongues hanging out of our mouths. I love to catch clumps of falling flakes and study their delicate pattern until it slowly melts, leaving a tiny patch of water on my soft gloves. When the snow is sticky, my dad and I ready for battle as we scoop the white foam into balls. As the packed snow flies through the air, a joyful feeling washes over me. When I am hit with a snowball, I always feel the freezing cold before I feel the impact. But the nice taste of clean ice melts rapidly in my mouth. Another activity for the holidays is baking cookies! You can never use too much cinnamon for Christmas cookies. I love taking the cookies out of the oven; as it opens, a blast of warmth heats my frostbitten face. The scent of cinnamon and pumpkin wafts throughout the house, pulling the family members to the kitchen.
There is always beautiful weather in winter. As I step outside, a strong, cold wind turns my face pink. The first step into the snow sends a chill through my body. The sky is cloudy and gray, matching the ground, which is covered in a thin layer of frost. Soft flakes tickle the back of my neck, turning into water and running down my back. Winter is the best time to enjoy God’s creation.
A certain holiday lingers around in winter… Christmas! Fun, cozy caroling and fresh- baked cookies soon come right around the corner! Every Christmas day is a handful of fun. Early in the morning, wrapping paper being ripped can be heard in every home. Screams and smiles are shared among the families, sitting in their living rooms. Some people share the holiday spirit by caroling around the neighborhood. From “Jingle Bells” to “Away in a Manger,” the warm feeling floats around the still, cold air.
Winter is amazing; God has given me winter to enjoy and praise him.

Winter
by Victoria C.

We celebrate four seasons each year, but out of those four I like summer the best. One of the reasons I like summer is because of all the activities the season brings. My favorite activity during the summer is swimming at the beach and in our pool. It is fun and thrilling riding my boogie board across the waves at the beach. I also enjoy sleeping in, playing video games, and diving into our pool.
Another reason I like summer is because of the weather it brings. The scorching heat of the summer sun feels great, turning my skin a nice golden brown. The deep blue skies are as endless as the ocean and filled with puffy, white clouds that are constantly changing shape.
In addition to fun activities and warm weather, I also love the fun vacations we take during the summer. My two favorites are Busch Gardens and Great Wolf Lodge. I love the rollercoasters at Busch Gardens! Alpengeist is my favorite because my feet are dangling while I do corkscrews, loops, and turns at a fast speed. My favorite thing about Great Wolf Lodge is the indoor water slides. The River Canyon Run has a raft that fits up to five people as it zooms down the slide with music and lights.
There are many reasons why I love summer, but the activities, weather, and vacations are what make it my favorite season of the year.

Winter Wonderland
by Chase W.

The freezing cold weather of winter is part of why it is my favorite season. It is fun to play in the soft, white snow even if it’s cold. No one will watch you play because it’s cold outside, and not many adults like snow. Most kids stay inside to watch football games on their televisions when they should be outside.
The weather in winter is pretty cold, but it is still unique and it’s enjoyable. The sky is as blue as the ocean even though the area around is white. The snow is like a soft blanket lying across the ground every so often it will have some footprints in it. A lot of kids use the snow as an excuse to stay inside, but it is more fun outdoors, especially if you have friends with you.
Most people just stay inside rather than go outside and play. I do my schoolwork when public schools are canceled, along with many other homeschooled kids. My dad goes to work every day unless it is the weekend or the roads are closed. [Winter is a really fun season and even those who don’t like cold weather can still enjoy winter.

Winter Wonders
by Haddon H.

My favorite season is winter, which includes the months of December, January, and February.  I enjoy the weather that winter brings.  The cold temperatures are a great reason to wear sweatshirts, coats, and boots.  Listening to the winter wind outside my window makes me feel so safe and comfortable in my warm house.  The best kind of weather in the winter is snow!  After a snowfall, when I look around, all I see is white, snow, and icicles; it feels like a wonderland.
Even though it is cold outside, there is so much to do in winter.  My dad and I enjoy hunting for deer or ducks when it is cold.  We do not always get much snow, but if we do, my sister and I head out with the dogs for snowball fights, sledding, and making snow angels  Once we are as cold as icicles, we come in for hot chocolate and blankets by the heater.
Some of my favorite events of the whole year take place in winter.  There are always extra church programs because of the holidays in winter, especially Christmas.  Church candlelight service, plays, and concerts are always so encouraging for peace on earth during this time of year.  I also like New Year’s Eve because my family reviews what we have accomplished for the year and sets goals for the new year.  Another great event is when snow closes school; I love a day off from school and being able to take a break from the work.  I love winter!

Fire and Ice
by Zayden J.

One of my favorite seasons is the icy season of winter.  The sparkling patterns formed by ice and snow, speckled with beautiful evergreen trees, are some of my favorite things about winter.  Snow falls from the sky in a shimmering array, as if one huge diamond in the sky had been crushed into brilliant powder.  Winter is, of course, the coldest season, which means hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire.
One of my favorite things to do in the snow is to build snowmen.  One snowman has been found to enjoy staring through my father’s car windshield. Of course, one of the best things about winter is Christmas.  From the tree, in all its magical splendor, to exchanging the gifts that lay beneath it, to the real story, Christmas is one of my favorite holidays in the entire year.

My family has a couple of cool birthdays in the winter.  First is mine, then my father’s.  Last year for my birthday, we battled for top score at Laser Quest. Around that time of year, the snowdrop flowers start to spring up, like a promise of the spring to come.  Winter is a very exciting season in many aspects, and that is how it came to be one of my favorite seasons.

Oh The Colors I Can See
by Gabrielle S.

Spring is one of my favorite seasons because the weather is wonderful. Flowers bloom and celebrations begin.  The weather is perfect in spring; I can play outside all day in the sun.  The flowers become so many colors, and when the sun shines on them you can see their vibrant petals.  The colors in spring look like a palette of paints spread out over the world.  As the wind hits my skin, I get a chill that rushes through my body.  All these beautiful things happen from the weather and that’s one of the reasons I like spring.
When spring comes around, there are so many activities to do.  Soccer is a very enjoyable sport I like to play in spring.  I love to play with my friends in the sun and spring air.  As spring arrives, so does Easter, which means Easter egg hunts with friends and family.  I enjoy all these activities, and I’m glad I get to share them with everyone I care about.
In spring my family and I get to have many different celebrations, through the season.  A fun thing we like to celebrate is Saint Patrick’s Day.  During this season my family and I get to celebrate Easter and rejoice Jesus rising from the dead.  My brothers’ birthday is in spring so we get to celebrate and have a party on March 22.  All these celebrations are so fun, and I love getting to celebrate them with my family.
I’m so glad spring is a season! I enjoy it and the memories I get to make during this season.

                                                               Blanket Season
                                                                 by Caelie J.

Winter is blanket season.  Earth has a blanket.  The sky has a blanket.  People like blankets, too.  One thing I enjoy about winter is the weather.  In the winter the sky wraps itself up in a steely gray blanket of clouds.  Soon the snow will fall, blanketing the earth in pristine whiteness.  The icy chill of winter drives off most of the bugs, which is my favorite side effect of the cold weather.
There are many fun things you can do in winter; one of my favorites is making tiny snowmen with big eyes and placing them where they can stare at my dad through the windshield when he gets in his car.  I also enjoy being a “human sled” and sliding slowly down the slope of my backyard.  After enjoying Earth’s blanket of snow, I come inside and wrap up in a warm fuzzy blanket and sip a mug of hot chocolate.  I like mine with colorful, itty-bitty marshmallows.
Since I grew up in Florida, there are some winter events that I have heard of but not experienced.  I’ve always wanted to see a blizzard.  My mom often tells of blizzards in Pennsylvania, how she would watch the snow swirl furiously outside and slowly entomb the world in white silence.  She would emerge after the blizzard into several feet of snow.  I imagine tunneling through the snow and building ice forts.  I would also like to see frost on a windowpane, its lacy patterns creating prismatic designs across the floor as the sun shines through.  Winter is a beautiful season, and I wish I lived farther north!

Emotions
by Josiah T.

The Lord has given us four seasons to love and cherish. I love most seasons, but my favorites are summer and winter. My most ideal choice would be summer. As a student, I really don't appreciate the workloads and heavy backpacks from the many subjects I have to accomplish. I am grateful for the very short break I receive when it is sunny out during the summer season.
Another reason why I love summer is the many different activities. I enjoy amusement parks like Bush Gardens and Water Country U.S.A. Water Country USA is currently my most special place to visit because it a destination to me. At Water Country USA, I really enjoy
playing in the water with my family and being splashed in the wave pool with my dad. Each time we visit, it feels like a never-ending journey into the promise land of excitement. Summer has long days, so I get more time to do fun things individually and with my family!
Summer is the best season to perform many sports, which is another reason I enjoy it so much. There is plenty of time for exciting sports. For example, there are water sports like swimming, which I really get pleasure from. When I swim one lap in the pool, I feel like my skin is taking in a breath of fresh air. There are also other sporting activities like biking and running. When riding my bike, I feel like I am on a bumpy adventure, venturing to the great Celestial City of Gold. Another sport I enjoy is basketball. Summer is the best time to play outside. There are so many enjoyable things during summertime, which makes it the best season of all.

The Colors of Spring
by Logan D.

God has created many beautiful seasons but spring is my favorite.  One of the best reasons that make spring fun is the weather.  The temperature is slightly warm, but when the intermittent breeze comes, it is perfect.  The floor of the field comes alive as the wind sweeps through it.  The flowers dance in the soft draft like ballerinas dancing on a stage.  Sitting in the spring air, it is never too hot to go inside and never too cold to put on anything warmer.
Although the weather is great, there are many more reasons I love fall, like activities.  Lying on the spongy lawn, I stare at the sky and try to make out the shapes.  Another activate is trying to avoid spring cleaning, trying not to be seen by my parents. Playing soccer tournaments is one of the many awesome activities in spring. Playing in the spring breeze makes the game a lot less sweaty, and more enjoyable.
Another reason I like spring is the many fun holidays to enjoy.  My favorite is my birthday, because who doesn’t like a day all about themselves.  One holiday that cannot be forgotten is Easter. It is an exciting holiday that everybody loves, from finding eggs to getting an Easter basket full of chocolate and remembering the ultimate sacrifice God made for us.  Also, my sisters’ birthday, because I love to watch my little sister mature and grow.  These are a few of the many reasons I love spring.

Summer
by Luke S.

We are so blessed to enjoy four seasons throughout the year. My favorite season is summer. The weather is more bearable in the summer. I enjoy the heat. The winter is freezing, but the summer air is fresh and enjoyable. Working hard makes you sweat like a pig. The sweat feels good on my skin while I drank some nice cold water.
All the seasons have so many things to do, but summer’s activities are the ones that appeal to me the most. I play baseball all the way through July, with at least one to two games a week. Surfing at the beach is one of my favorite things to do. “Shredding the gnar” requires skill and passion. Swimming in my pool, my friends and I race to see who can swim a quarter mile the fastest, going back and forth across the pool.
In my daily life of summer I have many things to keep me occupied. I have started a lawn business with my brother and two of my friends. On rainy days we play Xbox or watch TV. Riding bikes is something we like to do, but racing around the neighborhood together is better.

These are just some of the reasons of why summer is my favorite of the four seasons. God has given us these special seasons for a reason, and we might as well enjoy them.

                                                         New Beginning
                                                         by Josh B.

My favorite season is spring because it is a new beginning for all things.  I love spring for a number of reasons; one of them is the amazing weather.  The wind sighs through the air and carries freshness with it.  The warm sunlight  signals the end of winter and the beginning of the warm seasons. Also the beautiful blue sky stretches across the horizon and in the evening it is like a canvas painted with red and orange.
I also enjoy the engaging activities during this “new beginning.” Making fires and roasting marshmallows and hot-dogs are some of these. As we go hunting, we  see the leaves forming,  and  we notice how quietly majestic they are.  Soccer soon comes with warmer weather, and the fun begins; the ball has been kicked skyward, and then hangs there, like a star.  As it reaches its pinnacle it plummets toward the earth like a meteorite into the goal.
I relish the celebrations included in this season as well. I like Easter, for it is the day that our Lord rose victorious.  My brother's birthday, my sister in-law's birthday, and my birthday all happen during this wonderful season.  These and many others are the reasons I love spring.

Summer
by Zach S.

There are four seasons in the year, but my favorite is summer. I like summer because the weather is hot, which is far more enjoyable to me than cool weather. The heat makes the days relaxing. The breeze whips through in short bursts. There is also very little rain to interrupt outdoor activities.
I also enjoy the active outdoor activities that I do with my friends. I like to play in my pool that’s in my backyard. Splashing and swimming are fun on scorching hot days. Going on bike rides around our neighborhood gives me a sense of freedom. When the wind is rushing towards me it is like sitting in front of a fan. Sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, and tennis are great to play outside and are so much fun. Making match rockets and firing them is a thrill. The activities are limitless in the hot summer.

In summer, I love the family activities we do, and the things we celebrate. For example, when we celebrate my birthday on August eleventh. I always have a pool party. My dad takes time off from work to go on vacations. We enjoy camping trips and we have lots of fun with the four of us without technology. We have campfires that are bigger than our tent. These are all reasons that I like summer, while school is out and friends can play all day.
